In fall 2013, my poem “Courage” was one of the winners of the Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) Bus Lines Poetry Contest. For a year, a copy of the poem was placed on one of CAT’s buses for bus riders to read and another copy was sent to the University of Virginia’s Special Collections Library.
Courage
By Natalie Smith
That tall, timid girl
Who tries not to be noticed
Decided one day to be dauntless
So she riled up her courage,
Stood up,
And asked him:
“Will you come to homecoming with me?”
